ONE History & Funding

In January of 2011, the Herefordshire Orchards Network of Excellence (HONE) was set-up to help take new ideas in cider fruit production to farmers’ fields and to facilitate the sharing of these ideas as well as best practice. HONE was part-funded by the European Union (EAFRD) and Defra through the VITAL Herefordshire LEADER programme, with Heineken UK providing the match-funding. The project grew to become an established a strong and lively network of 200 growers and cider makers.

In December of 2012, the network was adopted by the cider industry to be the voice and centre for cider and perry growers on a national level and funded by the NACM and members fees and managed by the Bulmer Foundation.

In January 2014 ONE became funded and administered by the National Association of Cider Makers (NACM) with additional revenue from membership fees. ONE is run on a day to day basis by Gilly Pollock, the Network Manager, and overseen by the ONE Steering Group, which is Chaired by Helen Thomas MD of Weston's Cider. The Steering Group members are volunteers representing growers and cider makers from Herefordshire and The West Country. The ONE Steering Group meet at least once a quarter to offer support and advice on the direction of ONE and to provide input from growers and makers and to ensure it delivers its objectives.

In addition ONE is also managed through the NACM's Pomology Group which is made up of key personnel from all aspects of the cider and perry industry on a national level.
